"Great Taste" to feature Donald J Pliner Footwear
Deerfield Beach, FL May 12, 2004 -- Platinum Television Group is pleased to announce the selection of Donald J Pliner Footwear for its innovative, educational television series, Great Taste.
With a well-established reputation for high-quality design of footwear and other leather goods like belts, handbags, wallets, it's a bit strange to say Donald J Pliner has "gone to the dogs." However, when one sees the endearing white Maltese pooch belonging to Pliner and his wife, it is more understandable—he has recently launched a collection of outerwear, collars, leashes, harnesses and carriers for small dogs under 20 pounds called Friends of Babydoll Pliner.
Shoes were almost in his bloodline—Pliner and his brother first worked as apprentices to their father in a family shoe store. Later, he opened Pappagallo Beverly Hills, his own retail store. He then owned the Right Bank Clothing Co. and Tea Room, out of which grew the Right Bank Shoe Co., both in Beverly Hills, CA. They became the first American outlet for many European designers who were much sought after, proving him to be on the cutting edge of fashion. A prime innovator, Pliner also developed his own line of RBCC clothing, shoes and accessories. He also designed the highly successful Glacee collection for Intershoe and shoes for Erica, before starting his own line in 1989.
The progressive company is committed to trends, fashion, quality and comfort in all of its products, which include men's and women's leatherwear, footwear, handbags, belts, eyewear, hosiery and body wear. Their individual stores offer a unique theatre effect, with influences from Africa, the Southwest and Morocco, and humorous decorative pigs and cows, his trademark. Currently there are concept stores in Beverly Hills, CA, Chicago, IL, Coral Gables and Aventura, FL, Houston, TX, and San Jose, CA., with new openings slated during 2004, including Las Vegas, NV.
The company's catalogs and brochures ooze sensuality, with models preening in leather and suede pants, jackets, bags as well as shoes and boots, in rich colors like tomato, mauve, khaki, expresso, and beyond basic black, all made in Italy and Spain.
The Great Taste segment will feature a discussion on designer footwear and accessories, helping the consumer distinguish between brands and understand quality, with an emphasis on comfort. It will also feature background on Donald J Pliner's company, the showroom and a store, with interviews with key personnel and actual customers. It is part of the Collection Series, focusing on "Accents for Finer Living."
